President's Letter - May 2012
Greetings Porsche (Porsh - uh) Enthusiasts,
The first of what I hope to be many “Coffee n’ Cars” took place this past Saturday morning at Steve Kittrell’s shop off of North Chester (gallery coming soon). Among those present, were club members Steve Kittrell (‘70 914); Lynn Christopher (‘73 914); Greg Fullmer (very rare ‘70 914/6 GT); Loren Stumbaugh (‘07 997); Omar Olivas (‘83 944 & ‘06 Cayman S); and Eric Mickelson in his 928. Some serious “tire kickin” took place I’m sure. I’ve heard Steve’s been puttin in some serious hours gettin this shop ready…what an awesome project!
DON’T FORGET! This Saturday May 19 is our annual Zone 8 James Dean Memorial Autocross to be held at Buttonwillow Raceway Kart Track. This track is a BLAST to drive…so bring your car and run some laps. You never know you might win a prize. If you don’t have a helmet you can rent them at the Raceway for a nominal fee. Tech/Registration to begin at 9AM. See link on web site for more information.

Also this Saturday, our club has been invited to join the Bulls and Stallions for a drive. Show up at Applebees at the Marketplace at 7:45AM and check out some amazing cars. The route will be distributed on site and you will arrive back in town by 11AM. If interested, contact Gary Couch at (661) 428-0199 or gcouch93@gmail.com.
An icon in the world of sports cars left us a few weeks ago…Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, son of Ferry Porsche passed away at the age of 76. Saying the words “Porsche 911” is like saying Michael Jordan, Arnold Palmer, or Babe Ruth. If a person knows nothing of the world of sports they will still know who these iconic figures are. Well, Butzi designed the Babe Ruth of sports cars and I bow my head in admiration. Have you driven your 911 today?
See ya on the road!
